2013-14 in the lower tiers of English football

Some basic numbers from the Championship, League one, League two, and the Conference. I’ve split the numbers into home and away games, too. As usual, all numbers are taken from the ever useful football-data.co.uk.

As a quick reminder, TSR (total shots ratio) is the proportion of shots taken by a team in the matches in which it plays. It’s calculated as total shots for/(total shots for + total shots against) and the better the team the higher the value. TSR is useful as it’s highly repeatable both within seasons and across multiple seasons, making it an excellent indicator of a teams talent level.

PDO is the sum of a team shooting percentage (goals/shots on target) and its save percentage (saves/shots on target conceded). In this case it’s useful as it shows poor repeatability within and across seasons. In other words extreme values such as those >1100 or 1000 suggests a team is getting some luck, whilst a value <1000 suggests the bounces aren't going a given teams way.
